Postnatal rEvolution Summit
February 1st, 2025 Amsterdam
Redefining Fundamental Needs to Build a Flourishing Society
Being born and giving birth are two of the most impactful events in human life. We all understand that investing in this delicate and important start is necessary to ensure healthy adulthood and vital communities and societies.
However, we are facing a decreasing availability of healthcare professionals, social networks, and resources all over Europe while postpartum health issues are increasing. We need to reflect on this and put in motion a new script for the future and quality of postpartum health. How can we, as a society, support the physical, physiological and emotional well-being of new mothers that reflect the fundamental needs of a vital society? After all, it takes a village to raise a child!
This is why PSN initiated the Postnatal rEvolution mouvement, whose first step is this Summit.

About
During this Summit, we ask your engagement for dialogue on:
What lessons can we learn from history?
What is the realistic situation in postpartum health in Europe?
What are the needs of todays’ parents on physical, practical, emotional and social level?
What are the differences and similarities between current care versus desired postpartum care?
How can informal care contribute to the support of new families?
What can we do to invest in a healthier society?
The dialogue will result in a collectively created Call to Action that will include collective recommendations on the practical, physiological and psychological support for all mothers.
Position Paper
The ‘village’ proves to be indispensable in the Fourth Trimester
Our Position Paper Recommitting to care and support in the Fourth Trimester is an extensive summary of scientific evidence proving that social support is instrumental for positive postpartum experience and well-being. The paper emphasizes the need for physical, social, emotional, and psychological support for women and families during this critical period of transition and discusses the importance of support and the most pressing gaps in the continuum of maternal healthcare.
Written by the Postnatal Support Network and reproductive health expert Kathy Herschderfer.
