Our research projects
In 2020, the Postnatal Support Network initiated a five-year Research Project on the postnatal period with a powerful mission: to unearth scientific evidence and gather our own data on the subject. This Research project fueled the more recent publication of the Position Paper Recommitting to care and support in the Fourth Trimester, an extensive summary of scientific evidence proving that social support is instrumental for positive postpartum experience and well-being.
Our research goal is to raise awareness and take the next step—create dialogue and urge to prioritize social and political change to support young families with concrete measures. Together with the past Summits, 100 testimonials project and the EDN survey on the postnatal experience with new mothers in Europe, we feel we have an substantial body of knowledge that form the starting point for a dialogue with academics, policy makers, midwives, psychologists and maternity nurses about the importance of support and the most pressing gaps in the continuum of maternal healthcare.
